Coaches

COLLEEN RUEPPEL: Colleen is a graduate of Wilmington College with a degree in Education Studies. She was also a member of the Wilmington College Swim Team. She was the assistant swim coach at Emory & Henry College in Virginia in 2016-17.  This will be her fourth year coaching the Middlebury Swim Team. She is also a swim coach at Kenyon College’s Total Performance Competitive Stroke Camps. She began swimming competitively at age seven. Her favorite strokes are freestyle and butterfly.  Colleen is currently a paraprofessional at Mary Hogan School.

ARCHIE MILLIGAN:  Archie is a graduate of Middlebury Union High School. This will be his second summer coaching Middlebury Swim Team. He has been swimming for 13 years and his favorite strokes are backstroke and freestyle. Archie will be attending Worcester Polytechnic Institute in the fall to study Robotics Engineering and to participate on their varsity swim team.

JULIAN SCHMITT: Like Archie, Julian is a recent graduate of Middlebury Union High School. While he is a competitive runner and Nordic skier, swimming was his first sport; he has swum since age 3 and been a member of the Middlebury Swim Team since age 8. Like the pool thermometer, Julian is a great gauge of the water temperature as he is the first to turn purple during a cold morning practice. His younger brothers, Gabe and Henry, are also members of the swim team and he hopes to instill a love of the sport and friendly competition in them as well as all the swimmers on the team. This fall Julian will be attending Harvard University to pursue a degree in either applied mathematics or environmental engineering.

FRANCES VANDERMEER: Frances is a junior at Middlebury College majoring in International Politics and Economics with French, where she is also a member of the swim team.  She grew up in Elmira, New York and began swimming competitively at the age of 7 for the Horseheads Thrashers.  She was a swim coach at Kenyon College’s Total Performance Competitive Stroke Camps and joins Middlebury Swim Team for the first time this summer.  Her favorite strokes are freestyle and butterfly.
